2022 - Year in Review

What A Year!

If the past 2 years have taught us anything, it’s that you must be able to adapt in the blink of an eye and that your community is the backbone to your business

January - Starting the year strong, we welcomed a few new staff members onboard (Hi Billy) and thanks to Lukey, revamped the much loved SOF Run Club. We were one month in at Coffeeboy and couldn’t get enough of Sam Bain and his iced long blacks. Breathing class was all the rage and Emma had started piecing together her Stress Workshop.

February - There were lots of highs and lows in February. We welcomed Artemio onboard, launched our Youth program, expanded our Fit Over 50s Program in partnership with the QLD Government, celebrated our 7th birthday AND got flooded all in the same month. February was a big month!

March - Now that the gym was back up and running, it was time to look forward. March was the start of the season for many clubs, including GPS (Kieran) and UQ (Rory). Brandon had gathered the troops to enter Mooloolaba Tri, Jacob had soft-launched his rehab program and Gabi had started a wonderful initiative called ‘Strong Minds, Strong Bodies’.

April - Our Allied Health team started to grow. Despite Matt being around for three months already, we finally decided to shout him out on the gram. Frankie launched an Exercise and Bone Density seminar with great success and the entire team were running around like headless chooks at work.

May - With the year well and truly underway, there became an increasing demand for Allied health services. Our team Emma [provisional psych] and Jacob [physiotherapist] did an amazing job at integrating their skill sets and our training philosophies together to work towards an optimal result for our members. At the back end, Artemio launched his very first Olympic Lifting seminar and sparked lots of keen interest within our members.

June - The beginning of Winter is normally a quieter month - not for us. With half of Brisbane seemingly over in Europe or America, the crew decided it was time to turn the attention in-house. Kieran and Joe were working to secure a secret deal behind the scenes.

July - Next up, the Gold Coast Half Marathon. Lots of members locked into solid training blocks and raced the 10km and 21km. Being the competitive bunch they are, this led to the next major sign up - the Noosa Tri later that year. Sporting wise, it was getting towards the end of the season and we were having lots of success with the Queensland Rugby season.

August - Back by popular demand, Rory doubled down on the social content, providing valuable insights into the class programs (Mic’d Up), testing and training protocols (Educational series), as well as community-driven events (Social Sweat). Some would say he started to find his true calling, while Ash worked on capturing this brilliant content and delivering it in ways our audience hadn’t seen before. A top notch partnership between the two.

September - The boys Joe and Kieran had returned from the USA and announced that we had taken over the lease for next door. Being 5+ years since we’ve all worked together under one roof, there was lots of chat about how this would all play out. The sports season started to wrap up - shout out to Rory at UQ for making it to the grand final in his first full season as Head S&C.

October - In the background, our data man Brandon had been taking every metric known to man and putting it into his big excel spreadsheet. With tonnes and tonnes of data sitting there, we started to give our testing protocol a much needed makeover. In that month alone, Brandon saw 100s of humans looking to get a deeper sports science analysis on their current health and wellness. More to come on that later.

November - November was an absolute blur. Between the Noosa Tri (shoutout to Joe, Kieran and Ash for winning the internal cup), SOF Movember (Gabi raising lots of awareness and money in partnership with Lululemon), Emma hosting a Women’s Health Workshop and welcoming a second Physio Sami to the team - it was a big month. It’s officially been one year with Coffeeboy (wow, really?) and with the success of the 2021-2022 season, we’ve welcomed a half dozen more sporting teams to the list.

December - Ahh, December. The SOF Christmas party was an absolute blast. The team wrapped up an incredibly successful year and are proud to have helped 100s of loyal, committed members every week. We’ve started the build for next door (Platinum 2.0) and it won’t be long until our staff and members are side by side again.

After 7+ years of running a gym, we know one thing is for certain.

It wouldn’t be possible without our community.

We thank you for 2022 and can’t wait to make 2023 our best year yet.

Joe, Kieran and the entire #TEAMSOF
