Welcome to the Science of Fitness (SOF)
Work Experience & Internship Program.

If you are interested in developing as a trainer in the health and fitness industry, this is for you.

Our work experience and internship is designed to give you exposure and experience in one of Australia's leading Strength and Conditioning facilities. The primary focus of this pathway is to help you develop in all areas as a coach/trainer.

Pathway #1 - Work Experience

Throughout this program, you will have access and exposure to;

  • Weekly 90min intensive exercise tutorial with leading SOF head coaches.

  • Observation, participation & supervised application.

  • An environment perfect for completing your relevant practical hours

  • 150+ member group fitness program

  • A Facebook group alumni of past and present coaches/interns

  • Training:

      • Elite Athletes

      • Semi Pro Athletes

      • Development Athletes

      • Older Populations

      • General Populations

      • Rehabilitation

      • Injury Prevention

What do we provide you with?

  • Free access to gym during all opening hours throughout Work Experience contract

  • Free access to Group Fitness program throughout the Work Experience contract

  • Uniform provided on site (to be returned after each shift)

Who is this perfect for?

This is perfect for those looking to upskill and/or gain valuable work experience hours. An ideal candidate would be an individual who has completed a degree in Exercise Science/Movement, are currently completing an Undergraduate degree, Australian Strength & Conditioning qualified and/or have completed their Cert 3+4 in Fitness.

*Individuals seeking practical placement under ESSA or Fitness Australia can be approved through this program.

*Minimum 3 hours per week.

How do I apply?

 

Pathway #2 - Internship

Lead, created and developed by Kieran Maguire, this internship is 26 weeks long and covers both practical and theoretical elements.

Kieran has completed his Masters Degree in Strength and Conditioning and has been educated by some of the very best in this field.

Kieran has worked with some of Australia's top athletes from numerous sporting backgrounds/organisations including Swimming Australia, Western Force Rugby Union, NRC Brisbane City Rugby Union, GPS Rugby Union as well as a handful more individual athletes from backgrounds such as Cricket, Track & Field, Rugby 7's, Touch Football, Dancing and Gymnastics.

Throughout this program, you will have access and exposure to;

 

  • 90min intensive exercise tutorial with leading SOF head coaches.

  • Writing and admitting advanced exercise programs.

  • Guidance to ID a potential niche within the industry most suited to the skills of the individual.

  • Sales Skills

  • Client retention skills

  • Client liaison

  • A Facebook group alumni of past and present coaches/interns

  • 24-week exercise program

    • Designed and supervised by SOF leading coaches.

    • Specific to outcomes ID by the individual.

  • Exposure to:

    • 150+ member group fitness program

    • Training:

      • Elite Athletes

      • Semi Pro Athletes

      • Development Athletes

      • Older Populations

      • General Populations

      • Rehabilitation

      • Injury Prevention

    • Working with professional and semi-professional sporting teams.

How do I apply?
Our internship program is invite only. Successful applicants will be invited from our work experience program.

 

What Are The Steps Going Forward?

The outcome intended will be to leave you, as a trainer, in a better position professionally than you ever have been before. Content covered will always come from a scientific backing and will include neuroscience, psychology, physiology, biomechanics and more. None of these topics are to be considered individual rather a labyrinth, in which each factor is as dependent on the next as it is on the last
